Pom Pom was founded in 2012 as a quarterly magazine that presents knitting, crochet and craft in the modern, beautiful, and meaningful way it should be. Mainly conceived as a collection of patterns complemented by thoughtful writing and useful tutorials, Pom Pom also celebrates the joy of making, hopefully without taking themselves too seriously!

Since their kitchen table beginnings, Pom Pom have gone on to feature some of the most well-known and loved independent designers and yarn producers, with some of the less well-known also growing alongside them. The contemporary patterns are all original and commissioned for the magazine, so you won't find them online or featured in any other publications. However, Pom Pom's website does feature additional free patterns, tutorials and information.

As well as being packed with 16 patterns, Issue 21 includes food for thought from Rachel Atkinson and Clara Parkes on the British wool industry, sees our resident columnist Anna Maltz get her (knitted) party hat on, plus a beautiful illustrated story by Katie Green shows the magic behind the scenes at Blacker Yarns. To finish off the party, of course our recipe this issue is a delicious peachy cake.

There are a lot of knitting magazines to choose from, many of which are aimed at beginners with colourful and enticing projects gracing the covers and always a freebie to lure you in. Here at Airedale Yarns we wanted to stock a magazine that didn't exclude beginners, but featured projects that were a little more challenging or took time to craft rather than easy quick knits.

The beauty of Pom Pom is that it works with talented designers who play around with stitches, colour and techniques so the pieces showcase your skills as well as allowing you to have fun with your favourite craft. The designs reflect the season and are carefully curated to give you wearable and beautiful projects. And as Pom Pom is quarterly you won't be bombarded with projects every month – you can browse at your leisure and take your time deciding what to make before the next issue arrives!

Whilst Pom Pom will always recommend the yarn used in the pattern as the perfect option (and they do use some lovely yarns) don't be afraid to swap in yarns from your stash as nearly everything is a standard gauge from 2ply to super chunky…though I’m not too sure what "heavy laceweight" is but it's not difficult to swatch up and check your tension. Pom Pom says, "We take pride in every detail of our magazine, from the typefaces we use right down to the paper we’re printed on, providing a beautiful and inspiring magazine with an incredibly loyal readership. Pom Pom has wide-reaching appeal, featuring designers and yarns from around the world."

A fabulous collection of contemporary patterns, Pom Pom is inspirational and beautiful and will take your knitting and crochet in a different direction whilst not being wacky or zany. This special 5th anniversary edition features an extra five original patterns.
