WHAT IS IT?

Locker hooking is one of many rugmaking techniques that uses canvas and a hook, though unlike with proddy or rag-rugging style methods, a yarn is passed through all the loops of stitches locking them in place.

Our illustrated guide shows you how to select yarns or fabrics, backing fabrics and canvases, how different types of yarns and fabrics will vary your designs, getting going, creating patterns, plying and joining, finishing techniques, edging your completed rug and much more!

WHAT'S IT FOR?

Locker hooked rugs can be very detailed and as hooks can vary in size the finished piece can actually be quite delicate or very chunky, though always with the possibility of moving in different directions and creating a unique design.

This technique is very versatile and can incorporate fabric strips, rug yarns or t-shirt yarns on traditional rug canvas or hessian. It also allows for quite a quick coverage of the canvas working in a myriad of designs from illustrative to abstract.

Locker hooking is a brilliant way to use up yarns or fabrics in your stash, even if you have small amounts of lots of different colours in different thicknesses. Rather than throwing away t-shirts they can be cut into strips and locker hooked. Yarns of different qualities and textures are also great and a brilliant way to add depth and character to your work.

Finished pieces can be made into rugs, bath mats, wall-hangings, runners, cushion covers and all types of bags.

WHY SHOULD I BUY IT?

Once you’ve received this guide (and bought a locker hook!) you can get going straight away in this easy and very effective technique.
