WHAT IS IT?

This 100g cone of Snelston Tweed Yarn is a pure British wool yarn grown, spun and manufactured in the UK. The Stanford family look after over 1000 Shetland, Swaledale and Blue Faced Leicester sheep on their farm in Derbyshire producing a fleece that is scoured in Bradford and spun into yarn in Huddersfield. They have control of every aspect of the process from the animal husbandry to the exacting standards of the blending and spinning process to create a yarn of great quality. Whilst Snelston sell the woven fabric and knitted garments from their website, we are delighted to be the exclusive retailers of the yarn ready for you to transform into your own unique products.

*Also available on 250g cones*

WHAT'S IT FOR?

The yarn is most suitable for weaving as it is a single yarn. The woven fabric will be strong and hardwearing making it ideal for coats and jackets, upholstery and curtains, bags and accessories. The yarn needs finishing once it comes off the loom which reveals a softer handle and character.

Snelston also have the yarn made into knitwear, though this is done by using two ends on an industrial knitting machine. The fabric is then washed and finished to allow any shrinkage or movement to occur before then cutting out the pattern and assembling the garments as you would if sewing. If hand knitting or machine knitting please allow for some spiralling. Finished items whether woven or knitted have a delightful handle, are soft and strong, fire-retardant, very warm and will last a lifetime.

The yarn will felt slightly if treated roughly by being thrown in a washing machine or hand washed. It will also dye brilliantly into heathery, rustic shades as the base is a soft, silvery shade. Think earthy, natural tones and use acid dyes or natural dyes as you would dye any other wool yarn.

Suitable Crafts: Crocheting, Dyeing, Feltmaking, Knitting, Tapestry Weaving, Weaving
