WHAT IS IT?
Knobbly is a fabulous chunky all wool yarn packed with gimpy, boucle textures. The lumps and knobbles and are even throughout the yarn to create a dense, but regular yarn. There’s good strength due to two ends twisted together which are then twisted back on themselves to create a crepe type effect and the natural content means it’s perfect to dye.
WHAT'S IT FOR?
All our undyed yarns can be dyed with hot or cold water dyes using tools and equipment you would have in your kitchen. Wool needs to be dyed with hot water or acid dyes and can also be dyed with natural dyes – into solid or unique space-dyed colourways.
The texture of this yarn will add character to all types of projects and is ideal for knitting or crocheting into quick accessories such as cowls, scarves and hats, though there would be little stitch definition, so perfect for beginners! Although untried, there is no reason why it won’t felt to create thick, lumpy felt with lots of possibilities. It’s strong enough to use as a warp (though check depending on how much tension your loom will give) and will work brilliantly in the weft especially in tapestry weaving and peg looms.
Also excellent to re-create hair when making dolls and animal figures, Santa’s beards and sheep!
