WHAT IS IT?

80% viscose and 20% metalised polyester (also known as Lurex) are knitted together to create this gorgeous jewelled 3-4ply chainette yarn. Most shades of Glitter are made from a self-coloured Lurex thread with a highly lustrous viscose, with the Quartz shade being a lovely multi-coloured version. Glitter is steamed once manufactured giving it a softer feel than some metallic yarns.

*Also available on skeins and 200g cones*

WHAT'S IT FOR?

Glitter is a really versatile yarn and can be used within almost all textile crafts to add a hint of twinkle to projects. For knitters and crocheters it can be worked to most 3 or 4ply patterns whether by hand or on a standard gauge knitting machine. Glitter is made to exactly the same gauge as Goldfingering or Goldrush, so you can be confident when using Glitter as a substitute.

Excellent within braiding and tassels, macrame and knotting, lacemaking and tatting as the cord like nature of the yarn gives great stitch definition and is strong enough to be knotted. Glitter is smooth enough to stitch within plastic canvas work and needlepoint and can also be couched into embroidery projects.

Glitter is quite strong, so with care could be used in the warp of most weaving projects, though it is a little slippery, so not ideal for a beginner. However, it is ideal for all types of weft applications including card weaving, tapestry weaving and tablet weaving.

It is a great yarn for anything Christmassy! The length on these cones means you have plenty of yarn if you need a couple of rows of sparkle within a festive project, for decorating baubles, tying up gifts, cardmaking and scrapbooking.

If you want to create your own shades don’t forget that viscose will dye with cold water dyes. The Opal, Platinum, Silver and Quartz dye particularly well as their viscose base is either white or ecru, so the Lurex will shine through and resist the dye. Try space-dyeing or create your own unique palette.
