This range of unusual wool yarns are created by spinning differing coloured strands together to achieve marls, speckles and shaded colour combinations for a huge variety and depth of character.

Our supplier isn’t sure of the origins of this yarn, so we are breathing new life into it and will let you decide how to use it! What we do know is that the colours re fabulous and the yarn has a light twist meaning it’s perfect for felting into thick, soft fabrics.

*Please read carefully* Phoenix can vary significantly in thickness from colourway to colourway or indeed within a colour range, so you may need to double up some thinner lengths in order to achieve a thicker yarn. Technically there are also no dyelots, so whilst we can send you multiples of one colourway they may not have exactly the same combination within them. However, we have tried our best to ensure that each batch comes from one original cone to prevent glaring differences and this is also why the cones are 100g, but there could be some knots here and there. Each cone should have a good amount of each of the shades within a colourway even if it isn’t obvious from the outside of the cone.

Phoenix is probably the most similar in style to Noro yarns such as Kureyon which retails for approx. £6.95 per 50g ball. We know that the wool content of this yarn is exceptional quality, soft and warm pure lambswool, but the uneven nature of the twist and lack of dyelots means we are able to offer it at over 70% less than Kureyon would retail – so a great bargain to be had.

Phoenix is perfect to knit or crochet with, but probably most suitable for hats or scarves, cowls and mitts and smaller accessories rather than a full garment as the variations in thickness throughout a cone could be obvious if you wished to achieve an even appearance over a larger piece.

It would be brilliant for knitting or crocheting into squares to piece together for a blanket or throw or making into corsages or brooches. Freeform crochet would also be a great craft as it benefits from the multi colours and the varied texture.

Phoenix felts brilliantly so would work very effectively in bags or cushions, vessels or bowls once knitted and thrown in the washing machine to create a thick, durable fabric.

For weavers it is certainly suitable for the weft, but due to the slightly looser twist is unlikely to be strong enough for the warp.

If you are won over by the colour combinations and are happy to experiment, this is a brilliant yarn at a fantastic price. Never to be repeated, so stash it now!
