WHAT IS IT?
Boomerang is a stretchy 2-3ply yarn with the look of a fine shirring elastic. The wide range of colours is unusual for elastics and is perfect to tone in or contrast with other yarns. Use within a wide variety of projects to both stabilise and distort. With a long meterage we have wound it down onto more user-friendly sized cones of just 50g, so you can play and experiment.
WHAT'S IT FOR?
All types of elastics and Lycra style yarns can be used to manipulate the structure of fabrics and work particularly well within knitting or weaving projects. They are most often used within industrial settings, but can give a crafter, designer or student an excellent finish to their projects.
Use Boomerang to stabilise a cuff or welt (when knitting by hand or machine) especially if the yarn is without any play – such as cotton or linen. By working the elastic at the same time as the other yarn it will add memory and stretch. You can stretch the Boomerang whilst knitting to create a springy, pulled in cuff or leave it at its normal tension and whilst it won’t pull in, it will prevent bagging or flaring and the piece subsequently going out of shape.
Knit it in with any other yarn for items such as legwarmers, tube tops, sock cuffs – basically anything you don’t want to fall down!
Within weaving and more experimental machine knitting add Boomerang to deliberately distort and pull sections of a piece out of shape to create 3D effects. Play around with just one or a few strands, use every row or skip a few for a shirred effect.
The wide range of colours means it can tone or contrast with other yarns. A brilliant yarn for using within fun, creative projects as well as being practical and useful and the long meterage means it will last for a long time. (Please note that images show the original large cones we bought, not 50g cones).
