WHAT IS IT?
This is a really versatile yarn and was often just called 3/14s cotton. It's a classic count that's been around for ever because it's so versatile and popular. Unlike mercerised cottons which have a high sheen, Cherish is a soft, brushed cotton (much like Good Fortune and Double Top), so has a matt appearance. A lovely soft handle and available on handy 100g cones at a great price.
WHAT'S IT FOR?
Whilst it's a perfect yarn for machine knitting on a standard gauge machine, Cherish can be knitted by hand or crocheted as a laceweight or 2ply. It will create soft, lightweight fabrics and these 100g cones mean you don't have to splash out a huge amount if you want to create stripes and patterns, Fairisle and intarsia. (Please note that images show the original large cones we were supplied with, not 100g cones).
As with most cottons Cherish doesn't have very much give, meaning it's great for weaving and is strong enough for both the warp and the weft. Also great for delicate braiding, tassels and lace.
Being machine washable it's also a really practical yarn and a great price for experimenting if you are new to machine knitting or weaving.
