Buying British Wool not only supports local farmers, has few airmiles, is free range and fair trade, but it's a really great product! Unlike some yarn suppliers; when we say British wool we mean wool that has come from the backs of sheep that live in Great Britain - not wool from abroad that is spun or twisted in the UK. That stuff is great too because it keeps British mills working, but as it's imported it's not helping our farmers.
We have so many classic breeds in the UK that you can find a sheep with a fleece to suit the demands of every type of craft. Wool yarns can be incredibly soft and smooth or rough and rugged depending on where in the UK the sheep lives and what it has to cope with - especially during winter!
Wool dyes brilliantly into rich colours using hot water dyes and unless it has been treated it will also felt - transforming the open yarn into a thick fabric giving even more creative possibilities.
All wool yarns and fibres have great thermal properties (unless they are superwash when all that goodness has been stripped off the yarn!!), so whether it's a chunky hand knit wool or a fine weaving yarn you are looking for they will keep you warm and toasty. The selection we have are all either spun or dyed exclusively to our specifications or we are the only stockist in the UK, so you are guaranteed a beautiful, unique product.
