Silk really is the most luxurious yarn of all and we stock a range of both pure spun silks and pure bourette silks as well as a range of assorted blends.
Spun silk is extremely lustrous and can be spun into the finest embroidery thread, through to chunky knitting weights. It is strong and versatile and adds luxury to a wide variety of crafts including weaving, knitting, crochet, braiding, lacemaking and embroidery.
Silk noil is still pure silk, but has a raw, dupion type appearance to give texture and character to all types of textile work and is a much more economical way of buying pure silk. This type of yarn is also known as bourette or wild silk and has less of an obvious sheen, more a gentle lustre. The finer weights are not quite as strong, but twisted up to thicker yarns the strength increases.
All silk yarns can be dyed into beautiful shades very successfully with either hot or cold water dyes or painted with silk paints.
