WHAT IS IT?
When you need your project to grow quickly you need a big tool, but without being so chunky you can’t hold them. The smooth warm bamboo is lovely to use when working up super chunky yarns.
WHAT'S IT FOR?
Though not quite as extreme as the 15mm and 20mm tools they can be worked with in much the same way:
Use for knitting thick yarns into thick fabrics such as a lightly twisted roving, mega chunky yarns or strand up multiple ends to create a multi coloured thick yarn. Make interior items such as cushions, throws, runners and blankets. The length of these tools means that you won’t be able to make a huge blanket all in one go, but you could make strips and stitch them together and they are much easier to handle than the very long extreme tools.
Stranding multiple yarns is great for stash-busting and adds loads of character, colour and texture to projects. Add boucles, glitters so touches of interest of if you work with rug yarns you’ll have a piece strong and tough enough to be walked onto – a runner, rug, bath mat etc.
There are so many super chunky and mega chunky yarns now available that these are the perfect needles for them. They are easier to handle than the mega tools so are great for children and beginner knitters as tension isn’t crucial and they see instant results!
You could also use very fine yarns – not quite broomstick knitting – but getting on for it. Work with the very finest yarns on these big needles for an instant lace look. Yarns such as fine mohairs work particularly well and just 50g of a 2ply or 4ply mohair should create a really long, floaty, dreamy scarf. This technique works best with yarns that have a bit of fluff to them – angora, mohair, fluffy acrylics etc as they bulk out the holes slightly. You’ll be able to work up a scarf or shawl in no time.
WHY SHOULD I BUY IT?
Chunky tools that provide incredible results very quickly and at a brilliant price.
