WHAT IS IT?
Caress is a beautiful 80% mohair and 20% nylon yarn on a 250g cone. This laceweight undyed yarn is gorgeous and soft, floaty and lightweight and is perfect to dye.*Also available on 50g cones*
WHAT'S IT FOR?
All our undyed yarns can be dyed with hot or cold water dyes using tools and equipment you would have in your kitchen. Mohair (and nylon) need to be dyed with hot water or acid dyes and can also be dyed with natural dyes – into solid or unique space-dyed colourways.
Mohair is a classic fibre and this lovely smooth, soft textured yarn will add a delicacy to all types of projects whether hand or machine knitted or crocheted, and adds beautiful texture to tassels and braids.
It's strong enough to use as a warp (though check depending on how much tension your loom will give) and will work brilliantly in the weft.
Also excellent to re-create hair or fur when making dolls and animal figures, Santa’s beards and sheep and can be couched into embroideries for lovely furry details.
It’s difficult to give an accurate knitting or crochet gauge due to the “halo” of mohair. Fine mohairs such as Caress can be knitted to a variety of patterns whether laceweight (Rowan Kidsilk Haze or Debbie Bliss Angel) or chunkier weights (such as our own Destiny) or knit or crochet on huge tools (15mm+) for a cobweb effect (also known as broomstick knitting).
Whilst Caress doesn’t include any silk in its make-up it feels and looks very much like Rowan Kidsilk Haze yet at a fraction of the price – approx. 70% cheaper, so use in this lovely ivory shade or have a go at dyeing and create a budget version!
