WHAT IS IT?
A collection of single gently textured pure linen yarns in a range of rich colours. Aura yarns are all approx. the same count but vary slightly so check individual descriptions – some may be slightly wiry, some hairy.NB: If you would like to purchase Cobalt, please see the information note with the Cobalt description.
WHAT'S IT FOR?
Single yarns can be quite weak, but these fine, textured linens are pretty strong and will hold their own used as they are. Not as strong as our Tough Stuff range, but with a good breaking point depending on their use.Weave Aura in the warp and weft into colourful fabrics. The crispness of linen means it has no insulating properties so is great in garments to be worn in hot weather – so woven into fabrics for shawls, tunics and wide trousers for example.
It is absorbent, but quickly releases any moisture meaning it becomes dry to the touch in a short space of time. It is therefore great woven into tea towels, runners and other household “linen” products.
Aura can be made into rustic tassels and delicate braids and stitched or couched into experimental embroideries, knotted into fine macrame and jewellery. Crochet or knit into very delicate, lightweight, lacy wraps or accessories.
You may think that linen is rather stringy and crisp, but the quality of the yarn improves with age and laundering so it softens to create a draping fabric. The surface of the fibres will also create a lovely polished sheen and lustre over time.
