WHAT IS IT?
This is a lovely smooth, pure tussah silk which is soft, glossy and luxurious. A strong yarn in a 4ply weight the oaky, honey shade of tussah silk is as a result of the oak leaves the silk worms feast on. Any project created from spun silk has the element of luxury that can’t be achieved with any other yarn. Many degree students use silk for final collections as it highlights their skills beautifully, designers making couture pieces choose silk for the most glamourous of looks, and mere mortals find that silk is a thread to be used once we’ve honed our skills in a particular craft or technique.
If this is a little pricey for you don't forget our Wild Silk collection that is still PURE SILK, but has a rougher textured feel at a brilliant price.
WHAT'S IT FOR?
This undyed silk is perfect for you to dye to your own shades which will be heathery, earthy tones due to the golden base of the tussah yarn. It can be dyed with hot or cold water dyes using tools and equipment you would have in your kitchen.
Silk needs to be dyed with hot water or acid dyes and can also be dyed with natural dyes – into solid or unique space-dyed colourways.
A classic 4ply weight with good strength means tussah silk is suitable for all types of projects and is ideal for knitting or crocheting into classic pieces and weaving in both the warp and weft in glorious fabrics.
Make stunning, luxurious braids and tassels, couch or stitch into embroideries and beautiful to machine knit straight from the cone on standard gauge machines.
