WHAT IS IT?
Illusion is a highly versatile and popular yarn spun from 92% acrylic and 8% nylon and is an absolute classic within machine knitting. The even crimped texture throughout the yarn gives it more texture than a smoothly spun yarn. The yarn has a nice gentle lustre and soft handle. Have fun and play around by adding elements of texture here or there to projects as the yarn is available on these useful 100g cones.
WHAT'S IT FOR?
Fine crepe type yarns are often used within machine knitting projects alongside smooth yarns to create pleats, stripes and bands. The contrasting textures work by playing with the natural draping qualities of both yarns to give shape and structure.
Knit on a standard gauge knitting machine to create soft, lightweight fabrics with gleam and lustre. These 100g cones mean you don’t have to splash out a huge amount if you want to create stripes and patterns, Fairisle and intarsia, so have fun and experiment. (Please note that images show the original large cones we bought, not 100g cones).
Being machine washable it’s also a really practical yarn and a great price for experimenting if you are new to machine knitting.
If you have patience there is no reason why you can’t crochet or knit Illusion by hand into delicate shawls or accessories – 2 ends would work up as approx. laceweight. Also great to make lovely delicate, slightly textured lace and tassels.
This yarn does have a slight “give” which is great for knitting and whilst not perfect for weaving, it could give some interesting effects with both the gimpy-ness and if a little elasticity is required. Strong enough for both the warp and weft.
