WHAT IS IT?
Islay is a fabulous yarn spun from 90% wool with 10% nylon for all types of textile crafts. The addition of the nylon not only adds strength to the yarn, but gives it a superior finish that will be more hardwearing than a pure wool. Islay is available in a wide range of both bright and muted colours with a gentle hint of natural lustre. Will also "full" when gently washed to create a softer effect.
WHAT'S IT FOR?
It is particularly good for weaving, primarily in the weft, but also in the warp with care. Also ideal for tapestry and tablet weaving and will make delicate braids and cords. 2/16wc is the classic weight for weaving into soft, draping fabrics and is brilliantly priced compared to other 2/16 yarns on the market.
We buy this yarn from a company who combine it with a thicker weight (3/9wc) and weave into fabrics used for seat covers and cushions in planes, cars and coaches, so you can be confident that it will be hardwearing and colour fast.
Treat as a laceweight yarn that you can knit by hand or machine, or crochet into very fine wraps, throws and accessories.

WHY SHOULD I BUY IT?
It is a yarn that’s versatile, and you get a lot of yarn for a great price. Always repeatable, but not necessarily in exactly the same shades.
